The value of Star Wars

Star Wars is a franchise that promotes certain values. This article discusses values that you might notice in Star Wars movies, books, and video games.

1.What does it mean to be a Jedi?

Star Wars is a good vs evil story whereby the good are Jedis. Yoda, the grand master of the Jedi Order, said that a Jedi uses the force for knowledge and defense, never for attack. This means the Jedi should never attack first or start any conflict for a purpose that would lead to destruction and chaos.

The Jedi also helps society. The Jedis are the guardians of peace and justice throughout the galaxy and use the light side of the force to help others in need. In the USA, our government defends our community. However, as individuals we also can help those in need. That is a Jedi value.

The goal of the Jedi is to bring balance to the force. This means that they control the darkness (evil) and light (goodness) succeeds. Unfortunately in parts of the United States and also in poor less developed countries, people suffer from poverty and crime. A Jedi would aim to bring justice to those suffering from inequality.

2.What is the dark side?

The dark side represents the force of evil which is channeled through the actions of the Sith which are the enemy of the Jedi. It is the goal of the Sith eliminate all Jedis. The Sith have a greed for power and will do whatever it takes to achieve even greater power.

The dark side and their Sith ultimately aim to rule the galaxy regardless of the pain and suffering they might bring. With the aim of destroying their enemies, and transforming the Republic’s military into one of their own, the Sith’s thirst for power is endless.

3.What is the Force?

The Force is a mysterious energy field created by all life that combines the galaxy together.

This field gives the Jedi, the Sith, and other force sensitive beings incredible abilities. However, the power of the Force can control their actions because the Force has a will of its own, which people have spent thousands of years trying to understand.

Both the dark and the light sides have different and similar abilities from the Forces. The light side of the force is also known as Ashla. The light side of the force covers calmness, peace, and passiveness. The Jedi were noble users of the light side, being selfless. And their enemies, the Sith, were followers of the dark side of the Force. They are also known as Bogan, meaning to embrace raw emotions. Bogan are driven by the pain centered characteristics of greed, fear of change, and difficulties to let go.

Yoda advised against the ways of the Dark Side and the Bogan saying that fear is the path to the dark side because fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering. Those who couldn’t conquer the dark side were devoured by it.

There are examples of groups that kept neutrality in the star wars of dark vs light forces. The Grey Jedi, Maz Katana, The Bendu, Knights of Ren, and the Nightsisters were Force sensitives that were neither light nor dark.

4.Conclusion:

Star Wars represents the real world in terms of good vs. evil. These Forces are in all of us. We make choices to the dark or light paths.
