The star UY Scuti and how it became so large

UY Scuti is the biggest star discovered. The star’s diameter is about 1,700 times bigger than that of the Sun which comes out to 1,471,129,000 miles long! The question is, how did this star get so huge?

UY Scuti is a Red Supergiant star, about 9,000 light-years away from Earth and is considered to be in the constellation of Scutum. The star is so enormous that it can fit more than 5 billion Suns and is 300,000 times brighter than the sun, but since its distance is so far away, you can barely see it. Well, why is UY Scuti bigger than the Sun? The star’s mass is actually due to rapid expansion and a bigger core.

As the biggest discovered star, UY Scuti outranks every star in the Milky Way galaxy. Though the size of this star is phenomenal, it is still nothing compared to other celestial objects such as black holes.
