For years the search for extraterrestrial life has always been the top priority for astronomical scientists. The vast majority of the population thinks that this would be the most revolutionary discovery in the entire history of humanity. It was estimated that humans would find the first glimpses of alien life in 2050. Little did they know that we might have just found it.
The recent ground-breaking news was first publicly announced in September 2025. The discovery was made by NASA with their Perseverance rover. The rover was strolling through a dry Martian riverbed in Jerezo Crater. There, the rover made the astonishing discovery, when it found protruding rocks from the riverbed. The rover’s scientific instruments revealed that the sedimentary rock is composed of clay and silt, which were the perfect preserves for ancient microbial life on Earth. Additionally, the rocks are abundant in organic carbon, sulfur, oxidized iron, and phosphorus, elements that all life needs and has. The rock was called Cheyava Falls, named after a Grand Canyon waterfall.
Cheyava Falls is covered in two interesting types of markings: poppy seeds (miniature dark dots), and leopard spots (larger dots that are lighter and surrounded by a dark edge). These spots are the results of chemical reactions that are similar if not exact to the life creating reactions on Earth.
This could be the turning point for science and humanity. Finding possible alien life will be the biggest news of the century. “Closest we have ever come to discovering life on Mars,” announced NASA.
